I have the Ipad pro. The app is working on my Iphone but personally he real experience is the bigscreen and pen on Ipad.
Im assuming the fix will be me completely removjng the app and reinstalling losing my over 800mg of data. I just started a nonprofit and kept all my notes here. Books and pages.
Can someone help. Even possibly roll bck the update just so I can save and the reupdate idk. I dont want to lose all of this I have a loyalty membership.
Id rather not fully delete the app. I went and updated and tried “unloading” the app in settings and that didnt work.
But furthermore, is this going to happen every update I am relying HEAVILY on this app tomreplace all the notebooks I have I am an obsessive note taker and I also can tell you exactly how my day went on this day 7 years ago. I basically am tracking my life and have been in many forms but to lose this would be a big blow and I would have to consider if this is a solution.
Please tell me this can be fixed WITHOUT deleting my data
Update, deleted app because I need to write and now, so lost all my data as my icloud subscription had been behind on payment so it wasnt syncing data. So yay deleted all my data and tried to do a fresh start, the app opened and went through new setup.
I made an install of an old backup to recover at least some of my work and then the app froze midway.
I get its not all of you guys multiple systems are trying to work there I can image, onedrive is where the file is saved making it likely laggier to retrieve as opposed to a local file. Anywho, while uploading it crashed again. I really need some help because if the updates are going to result in me losing massive amounts of data rhis cant be the longterm solution to paper I imagined. There are a ton of paper apps out there I got used to this one please help.

I am having the same issue! The application on my iPad pro suddenly just stopped loading. Whenever, I try to start it up. The screen greys out like its about to paint the landing screen. I can even see the 3 dot menu at the top with options to go full screen etc, Then it disappears and never loads. I have tried a full power cycle of my ipad to no avail. I have also removed the application and reinstalled…this results in the application loading and taking me through the initial startup process (including creating a new subscription that resulted in a a second subscription for penbook on my apple account). I can see that it is trying to load my data from the cloud but it only ever loads a single notebook out of 10 or so with hundreds of pages. The cloud load never finishes however, and the app appears to crash and then will never start up again.
I have lost access and potentially lost forever, hundreds of pages of notes from the last year, mostly business related, but a lot of personal stuff as well. The loss of the business notes is a real problem for me as I am a senior leader in my company. Considering I was doing everything properly to back them up on the cloud and fully backing up my iPad, I’m a bit salty about this loss.
Penbook, please note that I am bringing this up in the forum to give you an opportunity to solve the issues and make it right rather than posting an unhelpful, negative review on the App Store. Please help!
Same issue here - app crashing on my iPad. The iCloud sync has never worked properly for me so I have no access to my to do list for work for my URGENT deadlines!
Running into the same issue here. Most of my notebooks are stored locally and not in iCloud. But I was able to restore from backup. Penbook continues to crash. Any help would be appreciated.
I’ve been working with a few users affected by this bug, but I haven’t found the root cause yet - sorry to all of you who are affected by it. In the meantime, this TestFlight build might work as a workaround.

No luck for me either after trying the TestFlight build. Let me know if anyone finds a way to make it work.
Mine goes black and closes after a 30 seconds of reinstalling, and after that if I try to open it, it just shoes a black screen for half a second and closes.
Hi everyone - sorry that this crash is still affecting you. In the meantime while I keep trying to solve it, here’s a TestFlight link that will allow you to re-install the old version of Penbook. You can use this to export your books as PDFs, create a backup, etc.

Try un-enrolling and re-enrolling into the test flight version using the new link if you haven’t. After updating the app that way it is now working for me
But I can still only access up to 3 June 2025 which is missing my urgent list from 16 July! This appears to be the last iCloud sync for my system. I have not yet changed the one loaded on my iPad where my recent notes were most recently held - hoping that maybe they are still there and unable to sync to iCloud but might come back if I don’t uninstall and reinstall
Yeah I didn’t uninstall the app at any point, just got the different versions via test flight installed and I’m seeing everything so hopefully works for you too
When I go to test flight on my iPad it asks if I want to replace the current app and says I may lose the app’s data. So I haven’t risked it because I know my latest notes didn’t sync to iCloud - because that also has problems!
I was able to use the new TestFlight link to restore the old version and launch the app. Unfortunately, my iCloud sync, which almost never works on my iPhone, stopped working on the iPad then on my Mac once I restored this older version. Not sure if these things are related and don’t want to dogpile, but just wanted to let everyone know in case you run into the same issue!
